It’s okay to be undecided. Mary students are undecided or unsure of their majors. Choosing a major can be confusing. Luckily, there are a number of easy-to-use resources that can help you find the major that’s right for you.
Be sure to peruse through the information on majors we have posted on our site. The pre-major checklists provide good information about what it takes to get into a specific major. Almost all academic programs at WVU have their own website, be sure to utilize these sites for information as well.
WVU offers courses specifically tailored to students searching for a major. Look up enrollment information on courses.wvu.edu.
Orientation (ORIN) 151, Career Exploring and Planning: An exploration of careers and college majors with special emphasis on individual interests, abilities, and values. This course is most beneficial to freshman/sophomores, also for juniors and seniors who are uncertain of career paths.
Orientation (ORIN) 161, Exploring Career Options: This course helps students explore the career that is best for them. Students receive individual counseling as well as an opportunity to talk with career mentors.
Provides brief descriptions of all of the majors offered at WVU.
Detailed information on admission requirements, required courses, and sometimes sample schedules. Be sure to reference the catalog before changing your major.
The Career Services Center offers career aptitude testing as well as information on what jobs a particular major will qualify you for. The Career Services Center is available to assist you with every aspect of planning your career.
There are a number of non-WVU websites that offer useful tools to students who are undecided.
The Occupational Outlook Handbook offer extensive career information. For almost any career you can find information on; training and education, earnings, expected job prospects, what workers do on the job, and working conditions.
ONET OnLine has detailed descriptions of the world of work for use by job seekers, workforce development and HR professional, students, and researchers. UASC recommends referencing the site’s information on job descriptions and salary estimates.
