Who is my advisor?

UASC Advising

There are two types of advising: UASC advising and Departmental Advising. The UASC advises special populations, general studies students, and these pre-majors:

  • Biology
  • Biochemistry
  • Chemistry
  • Communication Studies
  • Criminology
  • English
  • Forensics
  • General Studies Education
  • Journalism
  • Math
  • Medical Lab. Science
  • Nursing
  • Pharmacy
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
  • Sociology

All students advised by the UASC have an assigned advisor. Visit the Who Is My Advisor? page to find out more about 2011-2012 advising assignments.

Freshmen advised by the UASC are required to complete the online freshman advising tutorial and a 1 hour 30 minute freshman advising workshop once a semester during the freshman year. Individual, 30-minute appointments also are available for additional assistance throughout the year and for upperclassmen who are not required to attend the workshop. Contact the UASC at (304) 293-5805, for any questions about freshman advising or to make an advising appointment.

Students that are part of specific programs, such as: CAPE, FOCUS, SOS and TEAM are assigned a specific advisor. To find out more about these programs and their assigned advisors, visit the OUR STUDENTS page of our website.

Departmental Advising

If you do not fall into one of the populations listed above, you are advised in your department. Your advisor is a faculty member or professional advisor in your major department. You may be advised in a group or individual session, depending on the department and/or advisor’s policies. Contact your department to schedule an advising session and find out more about their advising process. You can find the contact information for your department in the “A to Z Index” on the WVU website.

How do I make an appointment?

There are two ways to schedule an appointment:

  • Call our scheduling desk at (304) 293-5805. When you call our scheduling desk, you speak directly with and advisor who can answer quick questions and schedule for the appropriate appointment.
  • Stop by our scheduling desk during regular business hours: 8:15am-4:45pm Monday-Friday.
  • The Freshman Advising Workshop is scheduled through the Freshman Advising Tutorial, once complete.

We are not able to schedule appointments through email.
